Man Held Over Deadly Maidstone Street Brawl
Channing Hart Arrested After Fatal 2019 Fight
Channing Hart was arrested in connection with a violent disturbance in Maidstone town centre during the early hours of 25 August 2019. The street clash tragically ended with 21-year-old Andre Bent being fatally stabbed.
Background: Bloody Clash Linked to London Crew
Andre Bent lost his life after a fight erupted involving Vasilios Ofogeli, 17, and his friends, who had travelled from London to a Maidstone nightclub. Ofogeli was found guilty of Andre’s murder last year, alongside two attempted murder charges and a count of wounding with intent. He was sentenced to life in prison on 21 May 2020.
Further Convictions and New Charges
An extensive probe by the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate also locked up nine other men involved in the disturbance.
Hart, 30, from Ashwood Road in Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, was arrested shortly after returning to the UK on 18 August 2021.
He is now charged with violent disorder and assisting Ofogeli, who committed serious offences. Hart appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on 19 August and has been remanded until his next hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on 16 September.
