Burglar Nabbed After Co-op Heist in Deal

A suspected thief has been charged following a brazen break-in at the Co-op in Deal.

Early Morning Raid on Hamilton Road Store

The raid happened in the early hours of Friday, 24 April 2020. Cigarettes and alcohol were reportedly stolen from the Hamilton Road shop.

Hammer Found, Suspect Arrested

Karl Fathers, 36, of no fixed address, was arrested soon after. Police recovered a hammer believed to be linked to the break-in.

Facing Multiple Charges

Fathers faces burglary and criminal damage charges, the latter relating to alleged damage caused to a police cell.

He appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 25 April. His case has now been sent to Maidstone Crown Court, where a hearing date will be set.
