Carer Found Guilty of Manslaughter After Toddler’s Tragic Death
Leila Borrington, 23, claimed three-year-old Harvey Borrington fell off a chair and banged his head on 7 August last year. But paramedics found the little boy unresponsive, and he later died in hospital from serious head injuries.
Expert Report Reveals Shocking Abuse
Medical experts concluded Harvey’s injuries came from repeated blows, not a simple fall. They also found old injuries, including a broken arm. Borrington, who is not Harvey’s mother, was caring for him at her Jacksdale home when he collapsed.
Carer Filmed Child Instead of Calling Ambulance
Instead of dialing 999, Borrington filmed Harvey lying on the floor and sent the video to his father, who was out at the time. During a lengthy trial at Nottingham Crown Court, she denied ever hitting Harvey.
Jury Convicts Borrington of Manslaughter and Assault
On Tuesday 28 February, Borrington was convicted of Harvey’s manslaughter, causing grievous bodily harm, and assault. She was cleared of murder and two other assault charges. Sentencing is set for 16 March.
Detective Inspector Simon Harrison of Nottinghamshire Police said: “This was a tragic incident that shocked the local community. Harvey was a much-loved little boy cherished by his parents and wider family.
“As a police officer, I am pleased with the jury’s decision, but I know it offers no consolation to those left behind. This has been a long and difficult investigation, and I thank everyone involved for their efforts.”
