Woman Dies After Brutal Assault in Ilford Home
Tragedy struck in Ilford on Friday, 9 April, when Svetlana Mihalachi, 53, was found seriously injured inside a home on Princes Road. Police were called at 2.08pm following reports of an assault.
Svetlana was rushed to hospital but sadly died on Wednesday, 12 May, after battling her injuries.
Man Charged with Attempted Murder Now Investigated for Murder
Nicolae Virtosu, 47, with no fixed address, was charged with attempted murder and making threats to kill. He appeared at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 12 April and was remanded in custody. He is due back at the Old Bailey on Monday, 24 May.
Police Launch Murder Inquiry, Assure Public
Detective Superintendent Paul Trevers said, “Our thoughts are with Svetlana’s family following this incredibly sad development. They are being supported by specialist officers.
“A man has already been charged with attempted murder in relation to this incident. Following Svetlana’s death, a murder investigation has been launched.
“I would like to reassure the local community that we believe this to be an isolated incident with no further risk to the public.”
This brutal attack has shocked the local community, leaving one woman dead and a family devastated.
