Brutal Attack Ends in Death: Tom Carney Gets Life for Fatal Assault
Kick, Stamp, Kill
Tom Carney, 29, smashed his way into David Phillips’ home, kicking in the door before unleashing a savage assault. Inside the property, Carney stamped repeatedly on Phillips’ head and body, causing fatal injuries.
Gruesome Injuries Revealed
The jury heard that Phillips suffered multiple facial fractures from the stamping. His sternum, ribs, and thoracic vertebrae were also broken. Blood was found on a stereo in the house, suggesting it was used as a weapon during the attack.
CPS Condemns Violence
“Tom Carney admitted responsibility for the death of David Phillips but denied any intention to kill or cause serious harm. However, the evidence of this shockingly violent attack suggested otherwise,” said Emma Myles from the CPS. “We are grateful to the witnesses who came forward and gave evidence, allowing justice to be served for Mr Phillips.”
Life Behind Bars
Carney was sentenced to life imprisonment and ordered to serve a minimum of 15 years and 10 days before he can be considered for release.
