Vandals Use Sadiq Khan Stickers to Blind ULEZ Cameras in Orpington
A bizarre new wave of vandalism has hit Orpington, where troublemakers are slapping stickers of London Mayor Sadiq Khan’s face—complete with the word ‘liar’ scrawled across his forehead—over Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) cameras. The stunt has caused chaos by obscuring vital traffic cameras and smashing traffic lights, leading to dangerous consequences on the roads.
Six-Year-Old Girl Injured in Crash Linked to Tampered Traffic Lights
The fallout turned serious on a Thursday morning at 8:30am when a car carrying a six-year-old girl and an adult crashed on Court Road due to the malfunctioning traffic lights. Both were rushed to hospital for checks, but thankfully, doctors say their injuries are not life-threatening.
Vandals Hit Multiple Locations, Police Forces Stretched Thin
The attacks targeted traffic equipment at five Orpington sites, with some ULEZ cameras also vandalised beyond repair. This criminal mischief has forced police to divert two units away from emergency duties to deal with the incidents. Chief Inspector Priya Shome condemned the acts, pleading with the culprits to stop before someone gets seriously hurt.
“These reckless actions not only mess with traffic flow but put every road user at risk,”
Shome stated, urging vandals to think about the dangerous consequences of their actions.
Residents Alarmed by Late Night Disturbances
Local people reported disturbances around 11:30pm the night before, followed by the loud crash linked to the subsequent collision. The havoc highlights urgent concerns over road safety and the need to protect traffic management systems from further sabotage in Orpington.
