At 4.40pm on Monday 13 November 2023, chaos erupted when a man strode into Gillingham police station clutching a jar filled with a clear liquid believed to be diesel.

The suspect allegedly poured the liquid all over the front desk before lighting a rag and hurling it onto the surface, igniting a terrifying blaze.
Arson and Assault Charges Follow Arrest
Edward Midgley, 35, from Chatham, was swiftly arrested at the scene. He now faces serious charges of arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered, plus assaulting an emergency worker.
Midgley appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on 15 November and was remanded in custody. His next court date is set for maidstone/" title="Maidstone" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Maidstone Crown Court on 13 December.
