Predator Connor Baker jailed for nine years after terrifying attacks on women in Kent
Woman chased and grabbed near Royal Military Canal
Connor Baker followed an 18-year-old woman along a path by the Royal Military Canal in Hythe on Sunday 11 July 2021. Without warning, he put his hands around her waist. The victim fought free and sprinted to Rampart Road, where a passing group of friends spotted her distress.
Baker turns violent when confronted
The friends drove to join others on Hythe Green, where Baker appeared. When asked to explain his actions, Baker exploded with aggression and swung an asp-type weapon at the group before fleeing. Police were called and later identified Baker as the suspect.
Second shocking attack in Folkestone
Just months later, on Friday 12 November 2021, Baker targeted another woman in Folkestone. He knocked on her door, forced his way inside, and grabbed her, trying to kiss her. The woman pushed him out, but he clambered onto her conservatory roof, peered through an upstairs window, and damaged her property.
Baker was arrested at the scene after jumping into a nearby garden and later charged with multiple offences.
Justice served at Canterbury Crown Court
At trial, Baker was found guilty of assault with intent to commit a sexual offence, possession of an offensive weapon, trespass with intent, sexual assault, and criminal damage. On Friday 9 December 2022, the 24-year-old, formerly of Appledore Crescent, Folkestone, was sentenced to nine years behind bars plus four years on licence.
PC Paige Thomas, Kent Police’s investigating officer, said: “These offences would have been terrifying for the victims and I am pleased the sentence handed down reflects the seriousness of Baker’s actions.”
