PC Caught Fiddling Police Car Logbook After Forbidden Road Drive
East London copper PC Zain Anwar has been slammed for altering a police car’s logbook after driving it down a banned road.
Cover-Up Attempt Backfires at Misconduct Hearing
PC Anwar, once part of the Barking local policing team, faced a misconduct hearing that wrapped up on 16 January. He was found guilty of gross misconduct for tampering with official records and failing to own up to driving the unmarked police vehicle on Longbridge Road, which is off-limits for cars.
An investigation kicked off when the Met received a penalty charge for the rogue drive. While trying to identify the culprit, it emerged Anwar had fiddled the logbook to pin the blame on another officer.
Detective Superintendent Tears Into Anwar’s Dishonesty
Detective Superintendent Lewis Basford said: “PC Anwar’s actions fell well below the standards we expect of our officers. He had plenty of chances to be honest but chose instead to cover his tracks by blaming a colleague.”
“Honesty and integrity are crucial for public trust in the police. We will not tolerate this kind of deceit in the Met.”
PC Anwar Added to Barred List – Police Career Over
As a result, Anwar will be added to the College of Policing’s Barred List. This means he is banned from working for any UK police force, local policing bodies, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, or His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services.
