Third-Time Drunk Driver Banned for Three Years After Pub Crawl Caught on Camera
Ian Gregory, 49, from Briton Street, Southampton, has been slapped with a three-year driving ban after being caught behind the wheel drunk for the third time. The habitual offender pleaded guilty at Southampton Magistrates Court for driving with an alcohol level over the legal limit.
Caught Red-Handed Leaving the Same Pub
Police acted on a tip-off about a suspected drunk driver leaving Pilgrim House pub in Marchwood just before 7pm on May 25. Officers stopped Gregory on St John’s Drive as he drove his black Mercedes.
A roadside breath test confirmed he was well over the limit, leading to his arrest. This wasn’t his first offence here: Gregory was previously stopped twice leaving the same pub in November 2014, resulting in a 20-month ban.
Heavy Penalties for Repeat Offender
- Three-year driving disqualification
- £120 fine
- £85 court costs
- £30 victim surcharge
Police Warns Against Drink Driving
Sgt Andy Gwyer from the Joint Roads Policing Unit said: “As a roads policing sergeant, I have personally witnessed the tragic impact drink driving can have on families and communities. This successful conviction came from information provided by a member of the public.”
“Hampshire Constabulary is committed to tackling dangerous drivers who jeopardise road safety,” Sgt Gwyer added. “If you spot drink or drug drivers, report it. Call 101 or pass tips anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
