Widnes Cabbie Jailed for Brutal Handbag Snatches

A 32-year-old from Widnes has been locked up after snatching handbags from two women, leaving one with serious injuries.

Violent Snatch Leaves Woman Hospitalised

Anthony Parton, of Deacon Road, targeted a woman in her 40s on Coronet Way just after 5.30pm on Monday 27 July. He grabbed her handbag from behind. The victim held on tight, but Parton yanked it away, causing her to fall and injure her back.

She ended up in hospital, unable to walk without help. She also suffered minor wrist and thigh injuries. Despite her fall, Parton ran off towards Royal Avenue with the bag.

Another Snatch Just Days Earlier

Parton struck again on Wednesday 22 July, snatching a bag from a woman in her 70s on Henderson Road around 8am. He fled towards Mottershead Road after the theft.

Evidence and Arrest

  • CCTV footage clearly showed Parton committing both snatches.
  • Police recovered the stolen bags after cash was taken.
  • Items of clothing matching CCTV images were seized from Parton’s home.
  • Cell phone data confirmed his whereabouts at the time of the crimes.

Parton was arrested on 28 July. He refused to answer questions but later pleaded guilty.

Sentenced to Four Years Behind Bars

At Liverpool Crown Court on 6 April, Parton was jailed for four years and ordered to pay a £190 victim surcharge.

Detective Constable Nicola Dolan said: “Anthony Parton subjected these Widnes women to terrifying ordeals. One victim was hospitalised and unable to walk unaided. Thanks to CCTV, mobile data, and seized clothing, we proved his guilt beyond doubt. I hope this sentence gives the victims closure and serves as a warning to others.”
