Predator Jailed for Nine Years After Sick Child Abuse Exposed in Bordon

A 46-year-old man from Bordon has been locked up for nine years following a thorough probe by the Sexual Offences Investigation Team. Simon Thornton admitted multiple sexual offences against a child, including possession of indecent images. He was sentenced today (June 18) at Guildford Crown Court.

Horrific Abuse Lasted For Years

Thornton’s crimes took place between 2006 and 2009, targeting one victim. The abuse only came to light in October last year, when officers arrested Thornton. Police Constable Tamzin Ede slammed Thornton’s “predatory behaviour” and said he clearly thought he could get away with his shocking acts.

“Simon Thornton’s crimes have impacted the victim through her childhood and into adult life, causing low confidence, depression and difficulties in building trusted relationships.” “The victim has shown real courage in reporting and supporting the police investigation.”

Specialist Team Works Tirelessly to Support Victims

PC Ede praised the Sexual Offences Investigation Team’s committed work. “Every day, our specialist officers support victims and relentlessly pursue offenders,” she said. “I hope today’s sentencing encourages other victims, new or historic, to come forward.”
