Teen Bandit Forced to Pay Security Guards from Pocket Money After £50k iPhone Heist

Masked Mob Blitz Brent Cross Apple Store

A 14-year-old boy caught up in a daring masked raid at Brent Cross snatched 50 iPhones worth a staggering £49,550. The gang of five teens struck on January 5, storming the Apple store and overwhelming security guards. One guard was even threatened with a knife, forced to back down as the thugs grabbed the high-value gadgets.

Court Slaps Teen With Pocket Money Payback

At Croydon Youth Court, District Judge Sushil Kumar slammed the boy for his “very serious and planned offending.” Although he wasn’t the ringleader or the one who brandished the knife, the judge warned the crime could have landed him years behind bars if he were an adult.

The teen pleaded guilty to robbery and was hit with a nine-month referral order. He must also pay £100 compensation to each of the two security guards – a total of £200 – from his pocket money, as confirmed by his mother during the hearing.

“Bearing in mind your pocket money, I’m satisfied that compensation of £100 each, £200 in total, would be appropriate,” the judge declared.

Victims Faced ‘Terrifying and Scary’ Ordeal

The court heard the youngster had accepted guilt at the earliest chance and acknowledged the shock caused to shoppers, including a young family with children. The compensation is designed as a tough but manageable punishment for the teenager.

“Over the course of the year, you can budget for it and pay compensation for these two persons,” explained Judge Kumar.

Crime Spree Targets Tech Stores

The high-profile robbery was part of a broader crime wave hitting high-end tech stores. The mask-wearing gang smashed through security before fleeing with the stolen devices. Police investigations continue, with more arrests expected.
