Pervert Snatches Eight-Year-Old Boy in Broad Daylight
An eight-year-old boy was snatched by a vile predator while playing tennis with his younger brother — just yards away from their mum. The terrifying incident unfolded in Burgess Park, southeast London, as the boy went to the toilet during a tennis lesson.
Kidnap and Sexual Assault Unfolded in Public Park
Shane Upton, 24, grabbed the boy as he skipped to a nearby café’s men’s toilets “without a care in the world,” a court heard. Inside, Upton locked the door and sexually abused the child in the cubicle. Terrifyingly, he dragged the boy out and continued the assault in a crude den made of twigs and flowers.
The boy’s mum, frantic after her son failed to return from the toilet for 15 minutes, alerted police. A helicopter was deployed to help search the park.
Shocking Arrest After Violent Struggle With Police
Police eventually caught Upton mid-assault in the bushes. He fiercely resisted, biting officers and spitting blood while they punched and kicked him to stop his escape.
Guilty Verdict and Awaiting Sentencing
Upton was found guilty in his absence at Inner London Crown Court of five charges, including kidnap and multiple sexual offences against a child under 13. Prosecutor Adrian Amer said:
“Imagine what it was like for the boy — happily skipping along, carefree — only to be preyed upon and horrifically assaulted.”
Jurors watched harrowing CCTV footage of the kidnapping and Upton’s arrest. The convicted sex predator, who has no fixed address, will face sentencing early next year.
