Birmingham Brothers Jailed Over Terror Plot

Two brothers from Birmingham have been locked up for preparing to back terrorism. Muhammad Abdul Haleem Heyder Khan, 21, and his 18-year-old sibling Muhammad Hamzah Heyder Khan admitted plans to travel abroad to join a terror group.

Prison Sentences Handed Down

On sentencing day, the older Khan was hit with a decade behind bars, while his younger brother got eight years. The pair, from Ward End, were arrested on November 2 by Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) West Midlands detectives.

Plot to Join Terror Group in Afghanistan

Court evidence revealed the brothers became increasingly radicalised over 2022. They made detailed plans to head to Afghanistan, including buying gear, mapping routes, and filling out forms to join Daesh.

“These brothers had a radicalising effect on each other and collaborated in planning their travel to Afghanistan,” said Detective Chief Superintendent Mark Payne, CTP West Midlands. “The evidence left them no choice but to admit their intentions.”

Police Call on Public to Stay Vigilant

Payne stressed authorities are working closely with partners and the CPS to keep communities safe in the West Midlands. He urged the public to report suspicious behaviour to help foil terror threats.

  • Thousands of tips each year assist police in tackling terrorism.
  • If you see or hear anything suspicious, report it silently via gov.uk/ACT.
  • In emergencies, always call 999 immediately.

Remember: Reporting a tip doesn’t ruin lives but could save them.
