A brutal partner abuser from Stoke-on-Trent has finally been locked up after terrifying his victim with strangulation, punches, and relentless stalking. Owen Meredith, 27, was sentenced to two years and one month behind bars at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Friday, 23 January.

Relentless Abuse Comes to Light

Meredith admitted to a shocking list of offences, including:

  • Two counts of controlling and coercive behaviour
  • Three assaults causing actual bodily harm
  • Three counts of intentional strangulation
  • One count of stalking causing serious alarm and distress

The horrifying abuse was exposed when the victim bravely spoke out in November 2022.

From Strangulation to Stalking

Meredith repeatedly strangled and punched his partner. After his first arrest and release, he didn’t stop. He tried hacking into her social media accounts, sent two personalised cards, and emailed her—continuing his campaign of control and fear.

Police acted swiftly, gathering enough evidence to charge and convict him.

Justice Served with Indefinite Restraining Order

Now behind bars, Meredith faces an indefinite restraining order banning any contact with his victim.

“Meredith’s actions were both physically and emotionally damaging to the victim, who has shown immense courage in coming forward and trying to seek help,” said Sergeant Georgia Hughes of the Newcastle-under-Lyme police team. “We are determined to support victims of domestic abuse and to bring perpetrators to justice for their incredibly damaging crimes.”
