Coronation Chaos: 64 Arrested in Central London Blitz
Police crackdown at the Coronation event in central London saw a whopping 64 arrests on Saturday, 6 May. Offences ranged from breach of the peace to conspiracy to cause a public nuisance.
Four Face Charges – Drug and Public Order Offences
- One charged with a religiously aggravated offence under Section 5 of the Public Order Act, due in Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 9 May.
- Two arrested for possession of Class A drugs – one appears 9 May, the other 26 May at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.
- One charged under Section 5 of the Public Order Act will also appear on 26 May.
More Arrests: Fines, Noxious Sprays, and Public Nuisance
- One held on a warrant for unpaid fines, still in custody.
- 32 arrested for conspiracy to cause public nuisance; all bailed.
- 14 arrested for breach of the peace; all bailed.
- One arrested for conspiracy and possession of noxious spray, now bailed.
- Others bailed for racially aggravated public order offences, harassment, possession of Class A drugs, handling stolen goods, sexual and common assault, going equipped to steal, and more.
Minor Offences and Releases
- One received a penalty notice under Section 5 of the Public Order Act.
- One arrested for motor vehicle interference released with no further action.
- Several others arrested for breach of the peace were swiftly released without further action.
The Coronation celebrations were marred by disorder, but police acted fast to restore order in the heart of London.
