Chertsey Burglar Locked Up for Three Years After String of Thefts

Darren Turner, 35, from Barker Road, Chertsey, has been sentenced to three years behind bars. The Guildford Crown Court heard Turner plead guilty to two burglaries and three fraud offences yesterday (14 May).

Home Invasion in Addlestone

Turner broke into a woman’s home on Coombe Drive, Addlestone, on 4 July 2017 while she was asleep. He stole her handbag, taking a phone, cash, glasses, and a sentimental photo of her late husband. He then tried using her bank card but was stopped after entering the wrong PIN.

CCTV caught Turner at a nearby cash machine attempting to withdraw money, and mobile phone data placed him at the scene, sealing his fate.

Previous Burglary Adds to Sentence

Turner also admitted a 2018 burglary at a Chertsey school. He received a four-month sentence for that, served consecutively with 2 years and 8 months for the recent burglary, plus five months concurrent for the fraud charges. Altogether, he will do three years in prison.

Police Praise Sentencing as Victory for Community Safety

“This has been a long and complex investigation but Turner is finally behind bars where he belongs,” said PC Elaine Garvanovic.

“I hope the local community will feel reassured by the actions taken by officers. This sentence shows Surrey Police will keep pursuing burglars, gathering evidence, and ensuring justice is served.”
