A driver who ploughed into a beloved young couple after veering onto the wrong side of the road has dodged jail time. The devastating crash claimed the lives of Katie Worrell, 25, and Adam Muskett, 27, back in June 2024.

Wild Ride Ends in Disaster

Alexander MacCallum, 28, was reportedly weaving “all over the place” on a wet, bendy Carmarthenshire road. His powerful Jaguar XKR suddenly “kicked out” before smashing head-on into Katie and Adam’s Ford Fiesta. Witnesses heard a “loud bang” and were horrified when MacCallum was seen taking photos of the wreckage as the couple lay dying. MacCallum admitted to the police he had never driven such a powerful car before, having owned the Jaguar for only two months.

Sentence Sparks Outcry

Despite pleading guilty to two counts of causing death by careless driving, MacCallum received an 18-month suspended sentence, sparking anger given the heartache left behind. Prosecutor Craig Jones told Swansea Crown Court: “There is no suggestion that Adam Muskett’s driving was in any way contributory to the collision.” The court heard that MacCallum was driving dangerously fast for the rainy conditions, hitting the speed limit of 60mph on the slick road.

Heartbreaking Tributes From Families

Katie’s family described her and Adam as a “fun-loving couple” with their lives ahead. They revealed the couple were on their way to celebrate Katie’s 25th birthday, with banners, balloons, and gifts Adam had secretly prepared — now scattered across the road.

“They were both incredibly loved by so many people.”

Adam’s mum, Helen Muskett, tearfully said: “How do we move on without you, your big, kind heart and cheeky smile? We are heartbroken and forever proud.” The crash scene on the A477 in Carmarthenshire saw Adam die instantly, while Katie was airlifted but later died in hospital. In their memory, her family raised £12,000 for the Wales Air Ambulance charity.

Remembering Katie and Adam

“Katie was a much-loved daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece and cousin. She lived life to the full, loving to travel and achieving so much in such a short time.” “Adam, our loving son, brother, grandson and nephew. He loved life, football, Tenby, and Katie very much.”

This tragedy is a stark reminder of the deadly consequences careless driving can have — and the heartbreak left in its wake.
