Couple Charged with Gross Negligence Manslaughter Over Baby’s Death
Met Police Move in After Lengthy Investigation
Barry Hughes, Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS London North, revealed that the Crown Prosecution Service has authorised charges against Constance Marten, 35, and Mark Gordon, 48. Both face gross negligence manslaughter charges linked to the death of their baby.
Additional Charges Laid
Besides manslaughter, Marten and Gordon are also charged with concealing the birth of a child and perverting the course of justice. These charges stem from their arrests on Monday following a prolonged police hunt to track down the couple and their baby.
Next Steps in Court
The CPS reminded the public that proceedings are ongoing and the accused are entitled to a fair trial. Marten and Gordon are set to appear at Brighton Magistrates Court on 3 March 2023.
