Crawley Man Jailed for Decade of Brutal Abuse

A Crawley man has been locked up for 20 years after a shocking 10-year spree of rape, assault, and brutal control over a woman in her 40s.

Relentless Terror and Threats

Wojciech Burylo, 50, from Calvin Walk, Bewbush, subjected his victim to horrific sexual and physical violence from 2014 to 2024. The abuse included over 40 threatening calls a day, with chilling death threats including promises of decapitation.

Even after being arrested in January 2024, Burylo brazenly broke bail conditions within an hour, using a bystander’s phone to send menacing messages to his victim. He was swiftly re-arrested and kept in custody, still bombarding her with threats via letters.

Justice Delivered at Lewes Crown Court

On July 9, Burylo was found guilty of three counts of rape, three counts of making threats to kill, and one count of battery. On March 10, he was handed a hefty 20-year sentence – 15 years behind bars and five years on extended licence.

The judge slammed Burylo as “obsessional, controlling, coercive and dominating,” praising the victim’s bravery in standing up against him. He also slapped him with an indefinite restraining order and a lifelong spot on the sex offenders register.

Sussex Police Praise Victim’s Courage

“Wojciech Burylo thought he could keep his victim under his control through years of appalling violent, sexual, and psychological abuse. But he underestimated her,” said Detective Inspector Darren Taylor.

“This incredibly brave woman reported his monstrous crimes to Sussex Police. We listened to her and believed her. She was taken to safety, and thanks to her, Burylo is now behind bars.

“If you are suffering violent, controlling, or sexually abusive behaviour, please report it. We will support you and fight to get justice.”
