On Monday morning, an urgent conference call was held after reports that a significant number of inmates tested positive for the virus.
A prison insider told us that mass testing is imminent to get a full picture of the infection spread inside the jail. Staff working over the weekend, who may have been exposed, have also been tested and are now anxiously awaiting results.
Inside HMP Norwich: 769 Prisoners Face Lockdown
Situated on Mousehold Heath, HMP Norwich holds 769 prisoners. Most have single cells, but some shared accommodation exists, raising concerns over virus transmission.
A Ministry of Justice spokesperson said: “We have robust and flexible plans in place to keep prisoners, staff and the wider public safe based on the latest advice from Public Health England.”
