Detectives are hunting for more witnesses after a tragic shooting in Croydon left a man dead last week.

41-Year-Old Anthony Morrison Killed in Broad Daylight

Police rushed to Imperial Way, Croydon shortly before 5:05pm on Thursday, 19 June, following reports of gunfire. Paramedics found 41-year-old Anthony Morrison with fatal gunshot wounds. Despite desperate attempts to save him, Anthony was pronounced dead at the scene.

Murder Investigation Underway – Suspect in Custody

The Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime Command launched a murder probe immediately. Anthony’s family has been informed and supported by specialist officers.

A 41-year-old man was arrested on Sunday, 22 June, and has now been charged with murder. Additionally, a 37-year-old woman was arrested for assisting an offender but has been bailed pending further inquiries.

Victim Was Attending a Wake When Shot

“We understand Anthony was at a wake on Imperial Way when he was shot,” said Detective Chief Inspector Dan Whitten. “We urge anyone who was in the area that evening, especially those at the wake or nearby events, to come forward.”

He also appealed to witnesses from a funeral service at the New Testament Assembly in Tooting Bec and from 1 Road Cemetery in Mitcham earlier that day who might have seen Anthony.

Croydon Police Call for Public Help

Detective Chief Superintendent Nick Blackburn, leading local policing, said: “This charge shows progress, but we still need the public’s help to get the full picture. Firearm murders remain rare in London.”

“Our teams are working closely with communities and providing support. Anyone with info should come forward to bring justice for Anthony and his family.”
