Ashley Hazelwood Jailed for Brutal Stabbing in Halstead
Ashley Hazelwood, 35, launched a terrifying attack after a pub row in Halstead. On 5 August 2022, Hazelwood clashed with his victim, hurling verbal threats and attempting to land a punch.
From Threats to a Violent Home Invasion
The menace didn’t stop there. Hazelwood sent more threats via text and phone. Then, on 12 August, just before 6pm, the victim called police. Hazelwood had shown up at his home and stabbed him in the hand, shouting abuse as he attacked.
Despite the slash, the victim fought Hazelwood off, forcing him out and slamming the door. Luckily, the cut didn’t need hospital treatment.
Police Nabbed Hazelwood Hiding in the Loft
The next day, police caught Hazelwood hiding in a loft at an address in Halstead. They found him carrying a screwdriver. The victim later identified Hazelwood to officers, sealing his fate.
Six Years and Nine Months for Aggravated Burglary and Assault
Hazelwood, from Elizabeth Way, Halstead, admitted aggravated burglary with intent and common assault. At Chelmsford Crown Court on 17 April, he was sentenced to six years and nine months behind bars.
Detective Inspector Jamie Stirland said: “This case wraps up another thorough investigation by Braintree CID. The victim faced a terrifying ordeal, fending off an attack right on his doorstep. It was pure luck his injuries weren’t worse. We work tirelessly to bring violent offenders to justice. Just last month, Jay Maxwell was jailed for over two years after a spree of burglaries in Felstead, Ongar, and Great Bardfield. With DNA, witness accounts, and mobile phone evidence, Maxwell admitted all five charges. We will always deal robustly with burglars, whose crimes often leave victims feeling violated and helpless.”
