20-Year-Old Arrested After Fatal Neasden Stabbing
A 20-year-old man was arrested early this morning in Neasden on suspicion of murder and two counts of grievous bodily harm with intent. He is now in custody at a north London police station.
Tragic Death on Neasden Lane North
Police rushed to Neasden Lane North, NW10, shortly after 9.30pm on Monday, 11 January following reports of a stabbing near Hazelwood Court. Emergency crews found 48-year-old Leon Street fatally stabbed. Despite desperate efforts, he died at the scene.
A post-mortem confirmed Mr Street died from stab wounds to the chest. He lived nearby with his fiancée and was a father, step-grandfather, and delivery driver. Specialist officers are supporting his grieving family.
Linked Stabbings Spark Fear in Neasden
- About 10 minutes before Mr Street’s death, a man in his 40s was stabbed near the Neasden Lane bus stop by a lone attacker who fled. The victim was treated and discharged from hospital.
- Two days later, on Sunday 17 January at 9.50am, a man in his 30s was stabbed close to the same bus stop. He is in hospital but his injuries are not life-threatening.
Detectives are keeping an open mind on motives. None of the victims were robbed, and the attacker reportedly said little or nothing during the attacks.
Police Urge Vigilance as Investigation Continues
North West BCU Commander Louis Smith warned Neasden residents to stay alert. “Three stabbings in one week, including a fatal one, is deeply worrying. Please be vigilant, especially if you must be outside during COVID restrictions,” he said.
Smith added that police patrols have been increased in the area to reassure locals.
Detectives Call for Witnesses to Come Forward
Detective Chief Inspector Tom Williams praised the helpful responses from local people but appealed for more information. “If you saw anyone acting suspiciously between 9pm and 10pm on 11 January or around 9.50am on 17 January, please get in touch. Even the smallest detail could be crucial,” he said.
