No Charges for Driver After Deadly Maida Vale Stabbing and Crash
Driver Cleared Following Double Death Incident
After a thorough review of CCTV footage and multiple witness statements, police have confirmed that the 26-year-old driver involved in a deadly incident on Chippenham Road, W9, will face no further action.
The driver will receive professional support to cope with the traumatic event, according to the Met Police.
Investigation Underway Into Stabbing and Fatal Crash
Detective Chief Inspector Neil Rawlinson, leading the probe from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, said:
“He is considered a vital witness to our investigation and will be offered support from professionals to help him come to terms with the terrifying situation he was confronted with. “It is vitally important that when a person dies there is a thorough investigation into all circumstances. Such decisions must be examined carefully. While this process takes time, it remains my team’s top priority. The man’s legal advisors have been informed of this decision. “Inquests are now open into both deaths. My team continues to provide evidence for the Coroner. We also urge anyone who witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken to police to come forward.”
Scene of Tragedy: Two Dead in Stabbing and Collision
Police were called just after 9am following reports of a stabbing on Chippenham Road.
Emergency services including the London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade rushed to the scene.
Yasmin Chkaifi, 43, from Maida Vale, was found with multiple stab wounds. Also present was Leon McCaskre, who had been hit by a car. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Post-mortem exams confirmed Yasmin died from multiple stab injuries while Leon succumbed to multiple injuries related to the crash.
Next of kin have been informed and Family Liaison Officers assigned to support both families.
