Dorset Detective Inspector Faces Court Over Nightclub Assaults
A serving Dorset Police officer is in hot water after being slapped with multiple charges over a nightclub brawl in Bournemouth. Detective Inspector Mark Portelli, allegedly off duty at the time, now faces three assault charges plus a public order offence linked to a March incident.
Allegations of Threatening Behaviour and Assault
Portelli is accused of causing harassment, alarm, or distress by using threatening and abusive language during the nightclub scuffle. Reports say he assaulted several individuals while at the venue off duty, fuelling serious misconduct concerns.
Upcoming Court Appearance and Police Probe
- Portelli is set to appear at Southampton Magistrates’ Court this Friday to answer the charges.
- Dorset Police have confirmed an ongoing internal disciplinary investigation will follow the court case’s outcome.
“The force takes all allegations of misconduct seriously and will continue to ensure a fair and transparent process,” a Dorset Police spokesperson said.
More updates are expected after the court hearing as Dorset Police aim to keep transparency front and centre in this high-profile case.
