Chase Ends in Crash: Driver Nabbed After Theft in Swanley
A high-speed police pursuit in Swanley ended in a collision and a clutch of serious charges for one man.
Suspect Caught with Stolen Goods
On Sunday 23 June 2019, an officer spotted a man leaving the Co-op service station on London Road carrying items reported stolen. The man hopped into the passenger seat of a car, which then sped off.
Crash Halted the Getaway
The pursuing police vehicle chased the car to Daltons Road, Crockenhill, where it came to a stop following a collision. William Mitchell, 29, from Berens Road, Orpington, is alleged to have been driving.
Multiple Charges and Manhunt Underway
Mitchell was arrested at the scene and charged with:
- Dangerous driving
- Obstructing or resisting a police constable
- Driving without insurance
- Driving without a licence
- Failing to provide a specimen for analysis
He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 25 June. Meanwhile, another suspect fled the crash site on foot and remains at large.
