Drug Driver Jailed and Banned After Dangerous Ride in Downton
A 24-year-old drug driver has been locked up for four months and banned from the roads for over four years following a risky joyride in Downton.
Caught Red-Handed in Uninsured Mazda
Officers were tipped off last September about a red Mazda being driven without insurance. They tracked the car down on Wick Lane and arrested the driver, Adam Scott, from Barn Hill, Chilmark.
Multiple Driving Offences Land Him Behind Bars
Scott later admitted to:
- Drug driving (tested positive for cocaine)
- Driving while disqualified
- Driving without insurance
- Driving a dangerous vehicle
At Pool Magistrates Court on 5 July, Scott was sentenced to four months in jail. Judge cited his repeated breaking of court orders and driving bans. On top of that, Scott has been disqualified from driving for four years and 62 days.
Unroadworthy Mazda a Hazard to Public
PC James Barrett from the Roads Policing Unit blasted Scott’s dangerous driving. He said: “Scott was not only driving while disqualified and without insurance, but a roadside drugs test showed he’d taken cocaine.”
The car itself was a menace on the roads. It sported a worn space saver tyre, an unsecured bumper, a missing nearside wing mirror, and a front panel sticking out – all deadly hazards for cyclists and pedestrians.
PC Barrett added: “The roads will be a safer place with Scott banned for the next four years.”
