Ex-BBC Producer Nabbed with 800+ Child Abuse Images and Dangerous Weapons

A shocking bust has seen former BBC producer Victor Melleney, 76, convicted for hoarding over 800 indecent images of children. The veteran TV worker, known for shows like Panorama and Question Time, also admitted to owning stun guns and pepper spray.

Arrested with Tasers and Pepper Spray

Melleney’s Kensington flat was raided by National Crime Agency (NCA) officers in October 2018. They found three tasers and a pepper spray during searches of his home and Porsche. Alongside the weapons, his laptop and iPad were seized, exposing his sinister digital stash.

Hiding Horrific Evidence

In a shocking twist, Melleney tried to conceal an external hard drive in his pocket. The device, recovered from a nearby Holland Park address, contained vile material. The NCA uncovered over 800 images and videos of child sexual abuse, ranging from category A to C.

Forensic experts found four peer-to-peer file-sharing apps on his gadgets. Keywords like “PTHC” (Pre Teen Hard Core), “Preteen,” and “11 yo” revealed the twisted nature of his searches.

Multiple Properties Under the Microscope

Further NCA warrants executed in March 2019 at Melleney’s West Wittering home uncovered more evidence. Intelligence suggested he accessed child abuse material there just before his arrest.

Justice Up Next

At Kingston Crown Court, Melleney was found guilty of possessing indecent images of children. He will also face sentencing for the prohibited weapons charges on 14 January 2022.

“Melleney had a significant collection of child abuse material, which he had sought out from with other like-minded individuals using the internet,” said Martin Ludlow, NCA Operations Manager. “It’s important to remember that behind every sexual abuse image is a child whose life has been cruelly torn apart by an abuser, with men like Melleney fuelling demand for such material. Protecting children and targeting those who pose a sexual threat to them remains our top priority.”
