Former Grange Hill star George Armstrong has died aged 60 after a brave battle with leukaemia.
From Child Star to TV Favourite
Born on 7 September 1962, George Armstrong kicked off his acting career early and quickly became a household name. He first caught attention playing Hubert Lane in the 1977 series Just William, starring alongside Bonnie Langford as Violet Elizabeth Bott.
But it was his role as Alan Humphries in the BBC’s iconic Grange Hill that won him legions of fans. From 1978 to 1982, and again in the 1983 spin-off Tucker’s Luck, George’s charming performance made him a staple of British TV.
Life After Grange Hill
George kept his acting career rolling with notable roles, including PC Driscoll in the 1989 police drama The Bill. His dedication and talent earned him respect throughout the industry.
Later, he switched gears, becoming a Technical Theatre Manager at a public school. There, George passed on his passion for the arts and technical skill to the next generation, leaving a lasting mark behind the scenes.
