Mum Charged Over Deaths of Two Toddler Brothers in Dagenham

Kara Alexander, 44, was charged at the Old Bailey on Thursday over the tragic deaths of Marley Thomas, five, and Elijah Thomas, two. The boys were found dead in their Dagenham home, with early investigations suggesting possible suffocation or drowning.

Last Seen Alive Days Before Body Discovered

CCTV footage shows the two young brothers with Alexander late on the afternoon of December 15. Their father, Selvin Thomas, became worried and called 999 the next day. When he forced entry into their home, he found the boys cold and lifeless upstairs.

“He dialled 999 and an ambulance arrived to find the children dead,” said prosecutor Philip Evans KC.

Post-mortem results have not been finalised, but preliminary findings indicate their breathing was likely obstructed — hinting at smothering or drowning.

Mother Arrested and Remanded in Custody

Police arrested Alexander in a nearby garden shortly after the grim discovery. She appeared in court where a plea hearing was set for March 9, 2019, with a preliminary trial slated for July 10.

Judge Mark Lucraft KC ordered Alexander to remain in custody as the investigation continues.
