Met Police Officer and Four Others Charged in Criminal Property Conspiracy
Five people, including a serving Metropolitan Police officer, face serious charges over a criminal property conspiracy.
Police Officer Among Those Charged
PC Kashif Mahmood, 31, is accused of conspiring to acquire criminal property between January 1 and July 8, 2020. He faces charges under section 1(1) of the Criminal Law Act 1977.
Co-Conspirators Named
- Ioan Ghergel, 33, of Newham E15 – charged with conspiracy to acquire criminal property
- Moshin Khan, 35, of Babbacombe Gardens, IG4 – charged with conspiracy to acquire criminal property
- Shabaz Khan, 32, of Lime Grove, IG6 – charged with conspiracy, possession of criminal property, and possession of cannabis with intent to supply
- Shazad Khan, 32, of Babbacombe Gardens, IG4 – charged with conspiracy to acquire criminal property
Serious Allegations and Legal Action
The group allegedly conspired to acquire cash they knew came from criminal conduct, breaking section 329 of the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.
They will all appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today, Wednesday, 8 July.
Anti-Corruption Probe Behind Charges
The charges come after a probe by the Directorate of Professional Standards’ Anti-Corruption Command, tackling corruption within the force.
