Huw Edwards, 63, has been handed a six-month jail sentence, suspended for two years. The ex-newsreader pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.
Shocking WhatsApp Link to Another Paedophile
South Wales Police uncovered Edwards’ disturbing behaviour during a crackdown on another man convicted of similar offences. The two were in contact via WhatsApp, sharing sexual messages. Edwards was even sending gifts and cash to the other offender.
The chats revealed a shocking stash of 41 indecent images of children, further incriminating Edwards.
CPS Vows to Hunt Online Child Exploitation
Claire Brinton, Crown Prosecution Service: “Accessing indecent images of children perpetuates their sexual exploitation and causes deep, long-lasting trauma for victims.”
The CPS and Metropolitan Police proved Edwards was receiving illegal images and videos via WhatsApp.
“This prosecution sends a clear message: the CPS and police will bring to justice those who exploit children, no matter where the abuse takes place.”
