Burglar from Margate Locked Up for Three Years After Jewellery and Car Heist
A Thanet crook has been jailed for three years after confessing to a string of burglaries, including a break-in at a Margate home where jewellery, cash, and even a car were stolen.
Family’s Home Targeted in Forced Entry
On 17 October 2018, a family came home to Gordon Road to find their back door smashed open. Thieves made off with alcohol, electrical items, car keys, jewellery, and cash. Their car was also stolen from outside, but Kent Police recovered it days later.
Confession from Behind Bars
Kirk Holt, 29, formerly of Margate, was already serving time for other crimes when he came clean in May 2019. Wanting to clear his conscience, Holt admitted involvement in seven burglaries during a police interview.
Sentenced at Canterbury Crown Court
On Friday 11 October, Holt was sentenced to three extra years behind bars for the Margate burglary. The court also considered the other six offences as part of his sentence.
Senior investigating officer Detective Sergeant Jay Robinson said: “Burglary can be invasive as well as costly to the homeowner so we hope that Kirk Holt’s confession to this burglary has provided the victims with a sense of closure.”
Police Issue Safety Warning
Detective Sergeant Robinson added: “As the nights draw in this Autumn, we want to remind residents to take steps to reduce the chances of becoming a burglary victim.
- Keep doors and windows locked.
- Use timers on lights and televisions to make your home look occupied.
- Photograph and document valuables to make it harder for thieves to sell them on.”
