Ex-Met Police Officer Caught in Jury Misconduct Scandal
A former Metropolitan Police officer has been blasted for serious misconduct after striking up improper contact with a juror during a trial. The officer, once part of the Specialist Crime Command, faced a disciplinary hearing on 14 March where he was found guilty of breaching professional standards through dishonest and discreditable behaviour.
Inappropriate Jury Contact Sparks Outrage
The incident dates back to November 2022 when the ex-officer attended a trial and exchanged 123 messages and calls with a juror. Such contact is glaringly inappropriate, risking the integrity of the entire legal process by creating a perception of undue influence.
Senior Cop Slams ‘Unprofessional’ Conduct
Detective Chief Superintendent Nick Blackburn, a senior figure in the Specialist Crime Command, did not mince words. He said, “Former Officer A’s behaviour was unacceptable, unprofessional, and posed a risk of compromising a criminal trial.” Blackburn warned that antics like these damage the police’s hard fight against organised crime.
A Stark Warning to Officers Past and Present
The case sends a clear message: Met officers must uphold the highest standards of honesty and integrity. The repercussions are severe—even for those no longer on active duty.
