Ex-Cop Jailed for Child Sex Crimes After Victims Speak Out
A former Walsall police officer was locked up last Wednesday for horrific child sex offences. Ross O’Grady, 47, initially denied eight charges of sexually assaulting three victims between 2014 and 2016.
From Police Officer to Prisoner
O’Grady, of High Street, Brownhills, later admitted guilt to five of the offences at wolverhampton-crown-court/" title="Wolverhampton Crown Court" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked" data-wpil-monitor-id="880">Wolverhampton Crown Court. He was sentenced to 13 years behind bars and slapped with a lifetime spot on the sex offenders register.
The ex-officer was kicked out of the force in June 2016 for gross misconduct connected to an unrelated theft. But the full extent of his crimes only came to light the following year when the bravery of his victims saw him finally brought to justice.
Victims Speak Up, Justice Delivered
The victims relived their trauma in court, helping West Midlands Police build their case. Investigators uncovered that some assaults occurred while O’Grady was still wearing the badge.
“O’Grady’s behaviour was despicable,” said Detective Sergeant Sam Kirk from the public protection unit. “He held a position of trust and abused it by committing these heinous crimes. I commend the bravery of his victims during this extremely traumatic time. There is no place in society for this kind of behaviour and O’Grady must now serve his time behind bars.”
