Four Arrested After High-Speed Police Chase in West Sussex
Four suspects are in custody after a dramatic vehicle pursuit across West Sussex that ended with a safe takedown in Shoreham.
Incident Sparks After Police Vehicle Rammed
The trouble began around 7pm on Tuesday, October 8, in Beachcroft Place, Lancing. A PCSO’s patrol car was rammed by a yellow/gold Peugeot 106 carrying two people.
Thankfully, the PCSO escaped injury and is receiving support following the terrifying collision. The suspects then sped off, kicking off a dangerous police chase.
Wild Chase Across Sussex Roads
The suspects were spotted heading west on the A264 towards Horsham, refusing to stop when ordered by police.
The reckless drivers continued on the A283 towards Shoreham, driving the wrong way around roundabouts and speeding at dangerous levels.
Specialist Police Units Bring Chase to an End
Teams from Sussex Police’s Roads Policing Unit, Tactical Firearms Unit, and Dogs Unit combined efforts to stop the vehicle safely at about 2am on the A259 Brighton Road, Shoreham.
Adur and Worthing District Commander, Chief Inspector Sarah Leadbeatter, praised the officers’ swift action and teamwork, saying: “They acted swiftly to bring the suspect vehicle safely to a stop and prevented it from posing a risk of harm to other road users.”
Suspects Face Multiple Charges
The four arrested remain in custody. Charges include:
- A 17-year-old boy suspected of driving dangerously, failing to stop, and criminal damage.
- Another 17-year-old arrested for failing to stop, carrying a lock knife in public, and driving under the influence of drugs.
- An 18-year-old man accused of failing to stop, driving without a valid licence, and no insurance.
- A 20-year-old man charged with aggravated vehicle taking, criminal damage, and dangerous driving.
