Four Men Charged in £1,500 Police Scam Targeting Elderly Woman
Four men appeared in court after allegedly conning an 80-something Tonbridge woman out of around £1,500 in a sham police trick.
Fake Police Probe Tricks Pensioner Out of Bank Cards
The victim was contacted in October 2019 and duped into handing over her bank cards as part of a bogus police investigation. The crooks then used the cards to buy fuel and withdraw cash.
Serious Crime Unit Cracks Case Linked to Another Scam
Detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate probed this scam alongside a similar con in Hertfordshire, where another woman in her 80s lost roughly £500.
Suspects Named and Court Details
- Rhai Tanbir, 25, Lilestone Street, Greater London
- Alamin Hoque, 21, no fixed address
- Isaac Nkosi, 25, Princess Louise Close, Greater London
- Muhammed Hoque, 21, Manchester Road, Greater London
All four men were charged with conspiracy to commit fraud and appeared at Maidstone Crown Court on Tuesday, 18 August 2020.
Alamin Hoque and Muhammed Hoque are currently in custody, with Alamin remanded until 18 September. Tanbir and Nkosi were released on bail, with the case set to resume in September 2021.
