Masked Thugs Launch Brutal Knife Raid on Festival-Goers
In the early hours of Friday 5 July 2019, six friends returning from a London festival were terrorised in a violent home invasion in Brentwood. Around 4.45am, three masked men stormed their house on Hatch Road, holding the group at knifepoint and stealing their valuables.
Man Stabbed in Unprovoked Knife Attack
The horror didn’t stop at robbery. One victim was stabbed multiple times in the leg and arm with a knife taken from the kitchen, suffering life-changing injuries. Police later found several stolen mobile phones and bank cards dumped in a nearby drain.
Brutal Raid Culprits Face Heavy Prison Sentences
- Mark Emmanuel, 40, from London E15 – 9 years
- Kevin Kabakaki, 37, from London E6 – 9 years
- Craig Cephas, 29, from Dagenham – 10 years
- Daniel Simpson, 33, from Northampton – 10 years
Fingerprints found at the scene led to the arrest of Mark Emmanuel in January 2020. Over the next five months, three more men linked to the attack were also charged. All appeared at Basildon Crown Court in August 2021, with one pleading guilty and the others convicted by jury. They were sentenced in March and April 2022, with judges noting the extreme violence involved.
Detective Slams Attackers: “They Terrorised Innocent Victims”
“The victims in this case were nothing short of terrorised by these men. One victim spent considerable time in hospital recovering from his injuries, and I can’t begin to imagine the mental impact that night must have had on each and every one of them. Up until trial, all four men repeatedly denied their involvement. Kabakaki, Cephas and Simpson continue to take zero responsibility for their actions. They all deserve to be behind bars and I’m glad we’ve been able to deliver justice for the victims.” – Detective Constable Jodie Barnes
