Police Clamp Down on ‘Free Tommy Robinson’ Rally and Counter-Protest in London
The Met Police have slammed strict rules on both the ‘Free Tommy Robinson’ rally and the counter-protest planned for Saturday, 3 August. Supporters of the controversial figure and anti-racism groups will face tight controls to keep the peace.
Where and When: Rally Zones Locked Down
Under Section 14 of the Public Order Act 1986, the Met has ordered ‘Free Tommy Robinson’ protesters to gather only in Langham Place, London W1B, specifically south of All Souls Road. The event is strictly limited to a 12pm to 3pm window.
Meanwhile, the opposing camps — including ‘Stop Tommy Robinson’ and ‘Stand Up to Racism’ — are confined to Portland Place, W1B, north of 5 Portland Place. Their demo can run from 12:30pm to 2:30pm. They are explicitly banned from moving elsewhere to disrupt the ‘Free Tommy Robinson’ event.
Police Commander Warns: Stick to the Rules or Face Arrest
Commander Kyle Gordon, the Gold Commander in charge, said: “We must protect the rights of all, including protesters and those affected by these events on a busy London Saturday.
“These events risk sparking violence and disorder, both during and after the protests. I have carefully weighed how best to police these gatherings while minimising impact on local communities.”
“I’ve made the decision to enforce these conditions based on the current intelligence. I urge everyone to protest lawfully within these limits, regardless of their views. Anyone who breaks the rules faces arrest and prosecution.”
“We have a full police operation ready to respond swiftly to any violence and ensure community safety throughout the day.”
