A Gloucester man has been jailed after biting a police officer during a dramatic arrest last month, Gloucestershire Police have confirmed.
Shocking Bite Caught on Camera
A bystander’s video of the arrest has gone viral on social media. Though the clip was silent, viewers saw officers wrestling with 39-year-old Luke Goodhall. What wasn’t immediately obvious was that Goodhall bit one officer’s leg during the scuffle.
Multiple Assault Charges See Goodhall Behind Bars
- Goodhall was handed a nine-month sentence for assaulting a police officer.
- He also admitted assaulting a second emergency worker, earning six months to run concurrently.
- Another assault charge is pending, with a court hearing set for 25 March.
Since Goodhall committed these offences while on licence, he must finish his previous sentence before starting the new nine-month term.
Injured Officer Speaks Out on Force and Transparency
“I strongly believe in informed decision making and healthy discussions,” said the injured officer, an 11-year force veteran. “Being open, honest and acting with integrity is key to bridging the gap between police and the public.”
“It is unfortunate that I was injured in this instance, but I hope the transparency helps foster an understanding into use of force and decision making.”
Gloucestershire Police stressed that while most encounters end peacefully, some demand officers use force to protect themselves and the public.
