Sexual predator’s suspended sentence overturned
Alan Luckhurst, 36, from Surrey, was initially handed a six-month prison sentence suspended for 18 months after sexually assaulting two teenage work experience students. But the Court of Appeal has now scrapped that lenient sentence.

Following a review under the Unduly Lenient Sentencing scheme, Luckhurst will serve two years and six months in prison for his crimes.

“Luckhurst’s vile crimes are only exacerbated by the trust placed in him to look after young students on work experience,” said Solicitor General Michael Tomlinson KC MP.
“The severity of his appalling behaviour has now been recognised by the courts, and he will spend time in prison for crimes that have left a devastating impact on his victims.”
Details of the case
- On 27 March 2023, at The Crown Court at Kingston-upon-Thames, Luckhurst was found guilty of eight counts of sexual assault and two counts of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent.
- The original sentence included a suspended term, a 35-day accredited programme, and a 30-day Rehabilitation Activity Requirement.
- After appeal, the court replaced the suspended sentence with immediate imprisonment.
