Drug Dealer Jailed for More Than Four Years After Heroin and Monkey Dust Bust in Stoke-on-Trent

Heroin and Monkey Dust Worth Over £2,000 Seized

A man has been locked up for more than four years after police uncovered over £2,000 worth of heroin and monkey dust in Stoke-on-Trent.

Leon Sedgwick, 33, from Wigston, Leicestershire, was stopped by officers on Covent Close in January 2022. A search revealed a zip-bag containing heroin and monkey dust valued at £1,100, along with 13 wraps of heroin, a mobile phone, and £470 in cash.

Police Raid Uncovers More Drugs and Equipment

Following the initial arrest, police searched a Stoke-on-Trent address linked to Sedgwick. They found drug scales and additional phones, reinforcing their case against him.

Second Stoke Raid Finds More Illegal Substances

In March 2023, officers returned to another Stoke-on-Trent address where Sedgwick was present. They discovered a bag containing heroin and monkey dust worth over £1,160, alongside cash and scales.

Sentenced for Multiple Drug Offences

Sedgwick admitted to possession with intent to supply heroin and class B drugs, as well as being involved in offering these drugs. On Friday, 19 January, Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court sentenced him to four-and-a-half years in prison. He was also hit with a £190 surcharge.

PC Ian Prendergast said: “Sedgwick was intent on distributing harmful drugs within our communities. We’re pleased he’s been caught and another dealer tackled in Staffordshire.”

“Officers across the force are committed to proactively targeting drug supply and will continue acting on intelligence and public reports to bring offenders to justice.”

Ongoing Operation Targets Serious Crime

This crackdown forms part of Operation Target, aimed at combating serious and organised crime. Police are focusing on groups involved in county lines, drug distribution, illegal firearms, and sexual exploitation.
