A driver has been locked up for two years after a tragic crash on the A30 that killed a motorcyclist.
Fatal Collision Details
Jawed Iqbal, 57, from Basingstoke, was behind the wheel of a Skoda Superb when he collided with Justin Reygers, 27, who was riding his Yamaha Fazer early one morning on January 14, 2019.
The crash happened at around 5.30am as Iqbal pulled out of the Ashmoor Lane junction. Despite immediate efforts, Mr Reygers died at the scene.
Sentencing and Police Warning
Winchester Crown Court sentenced Iqbal to two years in jail. He was also banned from driving for three years and must pass an extended driving test before regaining his licence.
“My thoughts are with the family and friends of Justin Reygers, and I hope that the sentence imposed by the courts provides some closure to them,” said DC Mark Furse from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit.
“This case highlights the need to pay attention on the roads at all times, even when they’re quiet. Please take extra care around vulnerable road users like motorcyclists. The cost of not doing so is simply too high.”
