Motorway Mayhem: M25 Protesters Arrested on Gantries
Kent Police swooped on two pensioners protesting on the M25 motorway gantries, shutting down key junctions during morning rush hour. A 71-year-old man from Cornwall and a 75-year-old woman from Somerset were both arrested and remain in custody after disrupting traffic at junctions 4 and 1A.
Multiple Arrests Over Week-Long Protests
These arrests come amid a series of protests on the M25 earlier this week. On Monday morning, officers forced a motorway closure at junction 1A near the Dartford Crossing to remove a woman from a gantry. The motorway stayed open to ease traffic chaos.
The following day, two more women were nabbed at junction 1B after reports of another planned gantry protest. All three women now face charges of intentionally or recklessly causing public nuisance.
Charged and Bailed—Court Dates Set
- Theresa Norton, 54, from Scarborough was charged over Monday’s protest at junction 1A and appeared in Westminster Magistrates’ Court the same day.
- On Wednesday, Lucia Whittaker-de-Abreu, 33, from Derby, and 70-year-old Molly Berry from Buckinghamshire, faced similar charges over incidents at junction 1B and also appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.
Kent Police continue to monitor the situation closely to prevent further disruption to this critical motorway artery.
