Paedophile School Groundskeeper Jailed for 15 Years Over 1980s Child Sex Abuse
Justice has finally been served for a woman abused as a child over 40 years ago at a primary school in Islington. The victim bravely came forward in March 2021 to expose the nightmare she endured in the mid-1980s.
School Groundskeeper Robert MacLennan Exposed
The victim revealed she was raped and sexually assaulted over two years by Robert MacLennan, the school’s groundskeeper who lived on site. The 70-year-old East Londoner inflicted horrific abuse on the young girl while she was at primary school.
Relentless Police Pursuit Leads to Conviction
Police launched a determined investigation after the victim’s report. Their hard work paid off when MacLennan was charged with multiple offences. The case went to trial where he was found guilty on two counts of rape and seven counts of indecent assault.
On January 24, MacLennan was locked up for 15 years and placed on the sex offenders register for life.
“This man deliberately abused a vulnerable child and it is only right he spends a significant time behind bars,” said Detective Sergeant Barbara Siembida. “We want other survivors to know we take these historic abuse cases seriously and will pursue justice to the full.”
Message to Other Victims
Detective Siembida stressed the importance of the verdict for survivors of non-recent abuse: law enforcement remains committed to hunting down offenders and backing victims who come forward, no matter how long ago the crimes happened.
Robert MacLennan, from Romford, East London, now faces a long prison sentence and lifetime supervision after years of tormenting a little girl in his care.
