Hero Cops Lift Overturned Car to Save Trapped Motorist in Maidstone
Two brave Kent police officers risked their own lives to rescue an unconscious woman trapped under an overturned vehicle in Maidstone. Sergeant Michael Newman and Temporary Sergeant Christopher Ward rushed to the scene of a crash on 2 December 2017 and heroically lifted the car to pull the victim to safety. The woman later made a full recovery.
Cops Honoured for Life-Saving Bravery
On 16 May 2018, both officers received accolades for their “outstanding dedication and commitment” at the Kent Police Divisional Commander’s Awards held at Tonbridge School. Sergeant Newman and Sergeant Ward joined other officers recognised for their exceptional actions.

“Kent Police officers face dangerous situations every day and put themselves in harm’s way to protect the public. It’s right they receive the recognition they deserve,”
said Chief Supt Chapman. She added, “They balance personal pressures with protecting vulnerable people, going beyond the call of duty.”
A total of 17 Certificates of Merit were handed out, highlighting the courage and compassion of Kent’s finest.
