Teen Attacked with Machete in Brutal Street Assault
Victim Targeted in Shocking Attack
On 25 January 2023, an 18-year-old was walking with a friend in Benstead Grove when a vehicle deliberately charged at them. The victim fled for help but was chased by two men from the car – Troy Gosden and Kai Theodule, both known to him.
Brutal Machete Assault and Beating
At St Paul’s Avenue, Gosden launched a savage attack, striking the victim with a machete. Meanwhile, Theodule battered him with a rubbish bin and landed several punches. The attackers fled, leaving the teen with a punctured lung and deep cuts to his arm and hands. He later underwent surgery for his serious injuries.
Suspects Caught and Sentenced
- Gosden, 18, from Charles Drayson Court, Faversham, was arrested on 28 January.
- Theodule, 18, from Maple Gardens, Canterbury, was detained two days later.
At Maidstone Crown Court, Gosden pleaded guilty to wounding with intent and carrying a machete in public. Theodule admitted to affray. On 6 November, Gosden was jailed for five years and six months. Theodule received a 12-month suspended sentence with a three-month curfew, 100 hours of unpaid work, and mandatory rehab activity.
Police Praise Cooperation in Brutal Case
“This was an appalling assault on a young man that has left him with lasting injuries,” said Detective Constable Alex Burgham of North Kent CID. “Gosden went out that night armed with a lethal machete, intent on causing harm. He is undoubtedly violent, and Faversham is safer with him behind bars.
“I thank the victim and witnesses. Their help ensured this dangerous criminal was brought to justice.”
