Mark Brinton, 50, from Rockford Avenue, Kirkby, has been slammed with a 13-year prison sentence for horrific child sexual abuse offences. The verdict came down at Liverpool Crown Court.
Monster Convicted After Denying Charges
Brinton was found guilty in February 2025 following a harrowing trial during which he denied all allegations, forcing his victim to relive the trauma in court. He was kept in custody pending his sentencing on Monday, 19 May.
The abuse took place between 2016 and 2018. The court convicted him of:
- Seven counts of sexual activity with a child
- One count of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity
- Four counts of causing a child to engage in sexual activity
Harsh Restrictions Hit Brinton Alongside Prison
Besides the 13-year jail term, Brinton faces tough legal controls to keep him away from children and his victim:
- 15-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO)
- 15-year restraining order banning contact with the victim and her family
- Strict monitoring of his electronic devices
- Ban on unsupervised contact with anyone under 18
Victim Speaks Out About Lasting Trauma
An emotional victim impact statement laid bare the long-term damage caused by Brinton’s abuse. The survivor revealed ongoing struggles with mental breakdowns, sleepless nights, and the pressure to “mask” emotions to avoid appearing vulnerable.
“I’ve never been more proud of myself than the day I stood on the stand and gave my evidence and my truth,” the victim said.
Police Credit Survivor’s Remarkable Courage
Detective Sergeant Becky Robinson of Merseyside Police’s Protecting Vulnerable People (PVP) unit hailed the survivor’s bravery for securing justice:
“Brinton is a despicable, persistent, and manipulative offender who now faces a long prison sentence. The victim’s bravery in giving evidence helped ensure Brinton was held accountable.”
Robinson emphasised that Merseyside Police are committed to supporting all survivors of sexual abuse and urged anyone affected to come forward, assuring support is available whether or not a formal report is made.
